The El Dorado of hikers and mountaineers: The valley of Gardena and the Dolomites


The legendary white mountains with their every-icy and imposing summits and rocky faces have always proved to be an irresistible attraction to travellers, which is why top Alpine mountaineers have visited ever since the sport was invented.

While the Dolomites are a paradise for Alpine mountaineers, hikers and hill-walkers are in their element in the spacious meadows that encircle the summits. Let our experienced guides show you the most beautiful routes that wind through this unique landscape. The peace and quiet of nature will let you forget the hectic round of everyday living for a while. Walking keeps you fit and healthy, so come and join us in the mountains!



Our suggestions for hiking excursions


Malga Brogles mountain hut, 2045 m

Brogles Hütte

3 hrs.  40 Hm  easy

 
This walk to the Brogles mountain hut takes you straight through the Puez-Odle nature park.
Valley location:
Ortisei, 1265 m.
Point of departure: mountain station Rasciesa chairlift, 2093 m.
Walking times:
mountain station – Brogles hut 1 1/2 hrs.; Brogles hut – Ortisei 1 1/2 hrs.
Uphill leg: Starting at malga Saltner, near the mountain station, the route follows path no. 35, which runs almost level, and then up to below forcella Valluzza. It then continues on to Rasciesa di dentro and passo Brogles. This is followed by an easy descent to the hut.
Downhill leg:The route runs back to passo Brogles and then follows path no. 5, mostly along Ruf de Cuecenes brook, and then down to the mid-point station at 1,693 m, or further along path no. 5, and then path no. 9, to the valley of Anna and on to Ortisei.
Alternative: Apart from the Brogles mountain hut, this walk also offers two side-routes to mountain summits via path no. 35: Turn left at the point of departure and continue on for ¾ hr. to reach Rasciesa di fuori at 2,281 m, or right to reach Rasciesa di dentro at 2,317 m in about the same time.
   

Malga Puez mountain hut, 2475 m

5 1/4 hrs.  550 Hm  medium

This high path through the Dolomites leads from Bressanone to Feltre. Part of it is included in the following suggested itinerary.

Valley location: Selva, 1560 m.
Point of departure: mountain station Dantercepies, 2298 m.
Walking times: Dantercepies – passo Cir 1 h; passo Cir – passo Crespeina 1/4 hrs.; passo Crespeina – forcella Ciampac 1 h; forcella Ciampac – Puez mountain hut 1/2 hrs.; Puez mountain hut – Vallunga – Selva 2 1/2 hrs.
Uphill leg: Start on the road than runs eastwards from the foot of gruppo del Cir and continue along path 2d up to malga Clark mountain hut, at the top of the ski lift. Now continue north on path 2, between boulders and small rocky outcrops to passo Cir. At the topmost point of Kessel in the valley of Chedul, you begin your descent to the mountain pass.
 
Continue on down northwards to Seemulde and via the rocky section to forcella Ciampac, before crossing the high Gardenazza section and going on to the hut.
Downhill leg: Starting at the hut, take path no.14 down to the bend and via other steep, sharp curves down into the valley of  Vallunga, passing mountain springs and along the banks of Plan Ciajeies brook, before taking the smooth path to Selva.
Alternative: From the hut, go east to cima Puez, 2,913 m, 1 ½ hrs., to col de Puez, 2,725 m, ¾  hr.

Puez Hütte
 
 

Rifugio Stevia mountain hut, 2312 m, – forcella Piza, 2489 m, – rifugio Firenze mountain hut, 2037 m

The Puez-Odle nature park, which occupies a good 10,000 hectares of land, runs from Passo delle Erbe in the north to passo Gardena in the south. Its eastern and western boundaries are marked by the valleys of val Badia and Val Gardena respectively. This walk takes you straight through the middle of the park:
Starting on the steep slopes of Steviaberg, the route runs through the wonderful Alpine flora of the valley of Cisles.
Valley location:
Selva, 1560 m.
Point of departure: Above Selva, Daunei car park, 1687 m.
Walking times:
Daunei – forcella San Silvestro 1 1/2 hrs.; forcella San Silvestro – rifugio Stevia mountain hut 1/2 hrs.; rifugio Stevia mountain hut – forcella Piza 1/2 hrs.; forcella Piza – rifugio Firenze mountain hut 3/4 hrs.; rifugio Firenze mountain hut – Daunei car park 1 h
Uphill leg: From the car park, go briefly towards rifugio Juac, then take path no. 3 to the right and follow it to path no. 17a, towards Troi Palota, until you reach an
    altitude of about 1,300 m, from where path no. 17 leads off up to the left from rifugio Juac. Continue eastwards via a steep corrie to forcella San Silvestro, and then on into a gorge and over the grassy slopes to the hut. Continue on northwards from the hut via Weideböden, through a hollow and over a steep grassy slope to the wind gap.
Downhill leg: Go down through the gorge and over a steep, rocky section to rifugio Firenze mountain hut, and then on via the access road to rifugio Juac and up path no. 3 to Daunei. The rifugio Stevia mountain hut offers wonderful views of the saw-toothed, red-and-crimson peaks, with the Sella range forming an imposing backdrop.
